Create a configuration policy for Microsoft Edge using only Microsoft 365 Admin Center (No Intune license is required)

The Microsoft 365 Admin Center now offers a powerful tool for managing Microsoft Edge settings across your organization without the need for an Intune license. This feature, known as the Microsoft Edge management service, allows administrators to easily create and deploy configuration policies for the Edge browser.

Prerequisites

Before you begin, ensure you have:

  • Microsoft Edge version 115.0.1901.7 or later installed
  • A Microsoft Edge Administrator or Global Administrator account
  • A supported operating system (Windows 10/11 or Windows Server 2016 or later)

Creating a Configuration Policy

To create a new configuration policy for Edge:

  1. Sign in to the Microsoft 365 Admin Center
  2. Navigate to Settings
  3. Select “Microsoft Edge”
  4. Go to “Gonfiguration policies” section
  5. Click on Create configuration profiles
  • Give a Name to your Policy
  • In this section I will take “Google Safe Search” & “Bing Safe Search” settings as example (You can add settings as your company needs)
  • Adding Google Safe Serach
  • Adding Bing Safe Serach
  • Click “Next
  • You can adjust this section or you can keep it as it.
  • Select Group of yousers that policy will be applied
  • Click “Review and Create

As you can see here Safe Search profile is cloud and not Intune like two previous profiles.

Bonus :

I already wrote an article with the best policies to apply on Edge using Intune, policies like smart screen and enforcement of TLS 1.2 …etc , you can copy those policies and apply them from M365 admin center.
